Ladder Safety
Ladder safety requires matching the right access equipment to your task, operating strictly within the product's rated capacity on level ground, inspecting structural components before each use, and immediately retiring damaged equipment. Since 2004, Silver Steps has engineered certified access systems designed for uncompromising stability across Indian homes, commercial facilities, and industrial plants.
THE 8 FUNDAMENTAL SAFE-USE RULES
Whether on a factory production floor, construction site, or at home, these 8 non-negotiable operational rules prevent workplace falls and serious injury:
Maintain 3 Points of Contact
Always maintain three points of contact while ascending, descending, or working: either two feet and one hand, or two hands and one foot firmly grasping the stiles or rungs.
Always Face the Ladder
Face the ladder squarely when climbing up, climbing down, or performing tasks. Never turn your back to the rungs or slide down the stiles.
The Belt-Buckle Rule (No Overreach)
Keep your belt buckle (navel) centered between the two ladder stiles at all times. Never lean out sideways; descend and reposition the ladder closer to your task.
Never Stand on the Top Cap or Top Rungs
Never stand or sit on the top cap or upper two steps of a step ladder, or the top three rungs of an extension ladder. The top lacks upper handholds and destabilizes your center of gravity.
The 4-to-1 Leaning Angle (~75°)
For every 4 units of vertical elevation to the support point, place the ladder base 1 unit out from the wall. This ~75-degree angle balances base resistance with structural support.
Lock Spreaders & Extensions Before Climbing
On self-supporting step ladders, ensure folding metal spreader braces lock fully horizontal. On extension ladders, confirm gravity rung latches engage securely over rungs on both sides.
Never Move an Occupied Ladder
Never attempt to "walk", shift, or adjust the position of a ladder while an operator or heavy tool payload is on it. Always climb down completely before moving access equipment.
Strictly One Person Per Ladder
Standard ladders are engineered and rated for single-person occupancy only. Never allow two workers on a ladder simultaneously unless it is a specially engineered dual-access scaffolding system.
MATCHING LADDER TYPE & MATERIAL
Safety begins before the climb. Choosing the right configuration prevents overreaching, tip-overs, and electrical hazards:
Step & A-Frame Ladders
Self-supporting units that require no wall support. Perfect for interior maintenance, ceiling installations, retail stores, and domestic access.
Extension & Straight Ladders
Designed for leaning against rigid exterior facades, warehouse racking, and rooflines. Set strictly at the 4:1 leaning angle with anti-skid rubber feet.
Platform & Trolley Ladders
Features an expansive standing platform enclosed by a 3-sided safety guardrail and lockable castors. Ideal for order picking, barcode scanning, and multi-hour tasks.
Mobile Towers & Scaffolding
Sturdy modular towers with generous working decks and outriggers for team operations, structural painting, facade glazing, and industrial ductwork.

ALUMINIUM & METAL CONDUCT ELECTRICITY • ZERO LIVE POWER USE
Aluminium, steel, and all metallic access equipment are high-efficiency electrical conductors. Using metal ladders near overhead power lines, transformer yards, busbars, electrical panels, or live wiring can cause fatal electric shocks and arc-flash burns. For any task with electrical risk, only certified non-conductive fiberglass (FRP) ladders must be deployed.

Ladder Inspection Checklist
An 8-step pre-use inspection guide covering side stiles, rungs, rubber feet, spreaders, pulleys, and robotic welds, with specific fail criteria and immediate tag-out protocols.
Choosing the Right Height
How to calculate your true working reach envelope, why you must never stand on the top cap, and a 4-question decision matrix to select the ideal ladder type for your job.
Ladder Maintenance & Storage Guide
Preventative care protocols for aluminium and FRP ladders, dry lubrication techniques, horizontal multi-point cantilever rack storage, and structural retirement criteria.
INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE & QUALITY MANAGEMENT
Routine care protects your workforce and extends equipment service life across commercial fleets:
Inspect Before Every Climb
Conduct a 60-second visual sweep before mounting. Check rails for cracks, rungs for grease, feet for wear, and hinges for positive locking.
Immediate Tag-Out & Quarantine
Never tolerate temporary field repairs or hammering bent stiles. If structural damage is detected, affix a "DO NOT USE" tag and retire the ladder immediately.
Supported Horizontal Storage
Store ladders horizontally on padded cantilever wall racks with at least three support points along the length to prevent sagging, bowing, and transit damage.
2-Year Manufacturer Guarantee
All Silver Steps access systems are backed by our 2-Year Guarantee against manufacturing defects, built under certified ISO 9001 quality management protocols.
